The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is reviewing the recent appointment of Veena Jain as director general of news for Doordarshan.
Incidentally, Prasar Bharati chairperson A Surya Prakash met I&B Minister Arun Jaitley.
Prakash spoke about the autonomy of the pubcaster being impacted as Jain was appointed without consulting the Prasar Bharati board. The order was not marked to the Prasar Bharati board.
What also has not gone down well with the top Prasar Bharati officials is that Jain would report directly to the Ministry for all purposes.
Earlier, Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar had written a letter to Prakash stating about his “anguish” at the ministry’s interference regarding the launch of DD Kisan.
The Hindu has reported that Jain has not chaired the prime time edit meetings since she took over as DG News last Friday.
