MUMBAI: Reliance Jio Media’s wait to get multi-system operator (MSO) licence has got longer as the company’s name does not figure in the new MSO list issued by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) with just nine months left for digital addressable system (DAS) Phase III deadline.

Reliance Jio Media, which is a subsidiary of Reliance Jio Infocomm, had applied for an MSO licence to the MIB in January.

Subsequently, the MSO’s application was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for security clearance on 2 February.

The MIB had earlier informed Reliance Jio Media’s Abhishek Soni during an open house meeting on 3 February that the MHA would take some time to furnish comments/security clearance.

Reliance Jio, which has a fibre-to-the-home plan to offer TV channels to consumer homes, has hired veteran cable TV executives like former Hathway Cable & Datacom MD and CEO K Jayaraman and former DEN Networks CEO SN Sharma to look into the cable TV side of the business.

Reliance Jio, which holds a pan-India unified licence, is planning to offer broadband, television, and telephone with wireless service provisions.

Meanwhile, the ministry  has granted permanent registration to 11 new MSOs as on 5 March 2015, taking the total MSO tally in the country to 153.

Atria Convergence Technology’s (ACT) MSO Kaizen Digital Cable Services has received registration for Phases II, III, and IV in Karnataka except Mysore city.

Mohit Sai Cable Network has received registration for Vishakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts of Andhra Pradesh in DAS Phases III and IV.
