Vice President Md. Hamid Ansari
formally launched the new look of
Rajya Sabha Television (RSTV) at a
special function in New Delhi’s
Vigyan Bhavan on Sunday. The news
and current affairs channel, owned
and operated by the Upper House of
Parliament, was launched in 26th
August 2011.
Besides live broadcast of the
proceedings of Rajya Sabha, the
television channel also brings
incisive analysis of parliamentary
affairs and nearly 40 programmers
and special features on national &
international issues.
“I take this opportunity to
congratulate all of your associated
with this endeavor,” the Vice
President said while addressing the
gathering at Vigyan Bhavan.
While focusing on current national
and international affairs, the Rajya
Sabha TV provides a platform for
knowledge-based programmes and a
special attention to legislative
business undertaken by the
Parliament.
On the occasion, Vice President
Hamid Ansari also released two
books titled “Moments of Eureka”
and “Scientifically Yours” in presence
of eminent scientists and
researchers.
These two books are based on the
compilation of various interviews of
scientists featured on Rajya Sabha
TV’s popular science based show —
Eureka. A feature film on this
prestigious program was also shown
at the event.
Conscious of its role as a public
broadcaster, RSTV has
conceptualised programmes on the
basis of the vibrant relationship
between Parliament and the people
of India. It aims at providing an
objective perspective on national and
international affairs to the people.
RSTV touches upon all the aspects
of political, economic, social and
cultural life of the people, while
promoting scientific temper among
masses.
The launch was followed by a Panel
Discussion on “Scientific Temper: A
Prerequisite for Knowledge based
Society”.
