The Russian GS Group has declared its plans to launch
DTH services in Pakistan and
Bangladesh during the first
half of 2015.
"In Bangladesh we are aiming
for 1.5 million subscribers in 5
years, However, this is a pessimistic figure, we think the
potential is much greater," said
Sergey Dolgopolskiy, PR
Director, foreign projects
department, GS Group.
Bangladesh's Beximco
industrial group will hold a
55% stake and GS the balance.
The DTH platform will have 105
channels.
Also on the cards is a 125
channel DTH platform in
Pakistan, where the company
hopes to attract 1.1 million
digital DTH subscribers in the
next 5 years.
Dolgopolskiy said the company
is also pursuing projects in
sub-Saharan Africa, in South
East Asia, including an OTT
project in Indonesia, and DTH
in Myanmar.
In Latin America, GS is looking
at a DTH venture in Brazil and
cable in Spanish-speaking
countries.
In each of these projects, the
GS Group will work with a
strong local partner.
The GS Group will bring in
investments, technology, CAS,
middleware, international
content & and, optional,
proprietary STB production. The
local partner also invests, takes
