MUMBAI: Sahara One, the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from Sahara One Media and Entertainment Ltd, is bringing back the horror genre with two new shows.
Starting 20 January, the channel will launch two new horror-based fiction shows in 11 pm – midnight band. At 11 pm, Sahara One will launch Haunted Nights, while 11.30 pm will be Yeh Kaali Kaali Raatein.
Haunted Nights is produced by Vikram Bhatt while Rajiv Mehra's (Office Office fame) Eagle Films is producing the second show.
Sahara One Media and Entertainment assistant director worker Suresh Mishra said, “Horror as a genre has always worked for us. Even the repeat telecast of Raat Hone Ko Hai is fetching good numbers. So it was natural for us to develop the genre.”
On selection of Bhatt and Mehra for the shows, Mishra said, “Vikram Bhatt is king of the genre and he has agreed to make the show for us.
While for Mehra this is his first attempt in horror, we are sure he will bring in a fresh perspective and novelty in the storytelling.”
Both the shows will be shot in a feature film format and aired in five half-hour episodes through Monday-Friday. One story will finish in one week.
Bhatt, who is known for his horror films like Raaz, 1920 and Shaapit, is producing the show in association with The Entertainment Hub to produce Haunted Nights.
Mehra, on the other hand, is known for directing comic TV series like Office Office and Shararat. He has recently produced the movie, Chala Mussaddi - Office Office.
Mehra said, “We have worked really hard for the story. The idea and presentation is fresh and we are confident about what we have made.
The horror element of the show will hold the audience attention.”
"More programmes should be generated in local languages and Doordarshan and Akashvani should reflect a picture of the entire country," Soni said.
