Turmeric Vision is planning to enter the Tamil market which will mark its long overdue entry in the regional market. It is planning to launch a high definition (HD) channel to target upmarket audience on the distribution side. Both the launches are planned for 2019.

The company has applied for licences to the ministry of information and broadcasting for launching the two channels.

It has started preparing for the launch by dubbing its existing shows in Tamil. The channel will focus on dubbed shows for the Tamil and after gauging the market response, it will look at creating original shows.

I heard some times ago that Discovery was planning to buy Food Food channel

Celebrity ChefSanjeev Kapoor-led Turmeric Vision, which owns and operates Food Food, has gone through a lot of turmoil in the recent past.
The company received its biggest jolt when key investor Astro decided to exit the company. The second jolt came when the acquisition deal with Discovery Communications got called off.

However, the company has survived the difficult times and is slowly limping back to normalcy. Kapoor has become hands-on with the operations of the channel.
The celebrity chef has pulled out the channel from losses and made it profitable. Having achieved profitability, Kapoor’s next task is to expand the network and also look at new revenue streams like content syndication.

Turmeric Vision is planning to launch a Tamil food channel and a high definition (HD) version of Food Food. Before venturing into regional, the company will test the market with audio feeds on direct to home (DTH) networks.

also join free dish soon
As part of its strategy to strengthen distribution, FoodFood is also looking at DD Free Dish, which has an estimated reach of 3.5 crore homes. “However, the reserve price of DD Free Dish is too high for a niche category like food. Unlike devotion, Prasar Bharati has not reserved slots for niche channels,” he added.
Kapoor said he has taken it upon himself to convince the I&B ministry to reserve slots for niche channels on DD Free Dish at an affordable reserve price. “Food channels also promote culture and local customs and traditions. Therefore, they need to be treated better,” he stated.

This is why Hindu channels are growing exponentially! :angry2: Seriously, we do not need any more of them. Food Food is the perfect example of a channel from a small (in fact, single-channel) broadcaster that will benefit the maximum if added on DDFD. It will easily become the No. 1 food and lifestyle channel and hopefully be able to make rural audiences aware of such lifestyle shows that they know nothing about.
