Just hope they launch a devotional, hindi movies and kids channel soon

Shemaroo Umang most probably will b added tonight on airtel digital tv
Their two trademark registration logos are yet to be used with other tv channel. Hope They will launch channels on kids, movies and Devotional genre as you said. By name of that trademark logo (Shemaroo Super /Shemaroo Sang) One Should be movies channel which is named "Super" and other "Sang" Should be a kids or a devotional Channel.

Shemaroo Umang maybe launching next week on adtv, with Sports18 channels which are going to launch next Friday.

They don't want their core audience to leave DDFreeDish as this is their only way to get revenue because even if they bought new shows they can't compete with channel like Star Bharat and &TV.
Also, if three big GEC left DDFreeDish, they also left for these small scale revenue only specially Sony Pal, Colors Rishtey and ZEE Anmol. They were not performing well on DDFreeDish they might generate more revenue from selling episodes to these channels. DDFreeDish now added Dangal 2, Shemaroo Umang and Ishara TV. Where we can see,

  • Aazad TV - Disney Star content
  • Dangal & Dangal 2 - Colors content
  • Shemaroo & Shemaroo Umang - Disney Star, Sony content
  • Ishara TV - Sony content
  • Big Magic - ZEE TV & TV content
Seems ZEE already knew their merger will bring lot of addition for free in their kitty for Big Magic. No doubt, our previous thread discussion was on Star India's shows which attracting these channels till now is still relevant. Seems, if Dangal keep running same way it will get flop even in front of newly launched Shemaroo Umang. They need to bring new re-run otherwise what a waste it would be of a potential GEC.

Your assessment is partially correct. Yes, smaller broadcasters r dependent on DD Free Dish for revenue and rightly so bcoz they cannot compete with biggies in pay tv segment.
But u r wrong in saying that Big Broadcasters Hindi GEC chs left DD Free Dish bcoz they were not performing well as Star Utsav was No. 1 and gained huge ratings from Free Dish. Colors Rishtey too was performing well. Zee Anmol saw sometimes good and sometimes average ratings on DD Free Dish. Sony Pal did well in certain regions on DD Free Dish bcoz they have less shows which connect with rural audience.

They have exited bcoz of 2 reasons, firstly they want DD Free Dish subscribers to upgrade to pay tv platforms so that slowly they get more subscription revenue and more viewers opt for pay chs later on and 2ndly Pay TV operators were unhappy with its subscriber base shifting to DD Free Dish as they were losing not only regular audience share but already lost out niche audience to OTT platforms. Big broadcasters have played a balancing game and removed hindi gec chs from DD Free Dish while keeping hindi movie channels still on the platform. This way they will observe whether this strategy of trying to upgrade subscribers is working or not and also somewhat reached an amicable partial resolution with pay tv operators. Going forward I m sure these chs will b back on DD Free Dish and both broadcasters and pay tv operators need to evolve a different strategy to cater to Free and Pay TV audience, already earlier i have discussed in detail regarding this

About content syndication big broadcasters r doing with smaller broadcasters, these r usually lot older shows and same will continue as it is alternate source of revenue and not hurting big broadcasters in any way

Dangal / 2- Imagine TV , Colors , Sahara One
Shemaroo - Star/disney, Sony, Viacom18, Zee
Ishara - Sahara One, Sony/Zee content
