Of course the BBC has its own biases, as does every news source. That doesn't mean it should be banned, simply because we disagree with its narrative. On the contrary, there should be more freedom in media to allow for various perspectives. We should be aware of what the west thinks, as well as its valid criticisms, if we are to play a role in world affairs and help shape our country toward its future. As for their slum portrayal of India, I would argue that there are advantages to being perceived as a developing nation in the west, particularly in this hostile climate. For instance, take "China refuses to give up ‘developing country’ status at WTO, despite Trump administration pressure" as a recent headline. It's better for India that it appear as a non-developed nation, stealthily rise and take the west by surprise, rather than come across as a rising power and face obstacles by insecure developed nations. For example, President Donald Trump announced in March that he wants to end the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for India, which currently allows India to export $5.6 billion of good to the U.S. duty-free. Such policies would be implemented by western nations to India's detriment if it is perceived as being a threat or competitor to the current global order.
