With the World Cup about to kick off a summer of football fever, and its ankles tapped by rivals, BSkyB has unveiled plans to launch what it claims will be the first ever channel dedicated to European football.
As part of their package, Sky Sports customers will be able to receive from 12 August the new Sky Sports 5which will offer up to 600 live European football matches such as those from UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers, UEFA Champions League, Spain's La Liga and Copa del Rey and Copa Italia. These will be complemented with other European football programming including Spanish football magazine Revista De La Liga — which has traditionally screened on Sky Sports 1 — and Champions League Weekly. It will also offer exclusively live coverage of Holland's Eredivisie in a new four-year deal. As an added bonus, Sky TV customers with Sky Sports can also get two years' free totally unlimited Sky Broadband Unlimited.
Commenting on the move, Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: "Sky Sports 5 takes our unrivalled live football coverage to the next level offering more European football than ever before. There's never been a better time to be a Sky Sports customer and with two years' free totally unlimited broadband, we offer the ultimate package for sports fans."
