RE: Falcon 9/SES 9 planned to launch on November 17

First static fire completed on upgraded Falcon 9

SpaceX’s upgraded Falcon 9 booster powered up to full throttle in a brief ignition at the company’s Central Texas test site this week as engineers prepare for the rocket’s return to flight as soon as mid-November with a European communications satellite.

The November launch from Cape Canaveral, which will haul up the SES 9 television broadcasting platform, will also be the debut mission for the latest version of the Falcon 9 rocket with higher throttle settings, condensed fuel and structural modifications.

SpaceX posted a video of the Sept. 21 static fire test late Thursday, showing an aerial view of the more than 15-second firing on a new ground-level test stand with a dug-out flame trench in McGregor, Texas.

Falcon 9/SES 9 planned to launch on Late december

JERUSALEM – SpaceX on Oct. 16 said it had changed its Falcon 9 return-to-flight plans and would first launch 11 small Orbcomm messaging satellites into low Earth orbit, and then test reignition of the rocket’s redesigned second-stage engine during the same flight before launching SES’s heavier telecommunications satellite into higher orbit, a mission that will need the reignition capability.

Luxembourg-based SES said the company was comfortable with ceding its slot to Rochelle Park, New Jersey-based Orbcomm, especially since SpaceX has said it can launch the SES-9 telecommunications satellite into geostationary orbit in late December.

Hawthorne, California-based SpaceX said the Orbcomm launch would occur by mid-December, meaning the company will proceed with full development of at least two Falcon 9 Upgrade vehicles and launch SES within a couple of weeks of the Orbcomm mission.

SES-9 is a high priority at SES. The delay in the launch — it was supposed to occur by September at the latest —is one reason why SES has trimmed its 2016 revenue projections.

SES spokesman Markus Payer said Oct. 16 that while the company wanted SES-9 in service as soon as possible, it was not inclined to disagree with SpaceX about the risk profile of the return to flight and the advisability of a real-world test of the second-stage engine’s reignition.

Slowly... d launch dates are being pushed back :(

RE: SES-9 into geostationary orbit in late December

Activation of TP for any dth ops , again required more time
like:- geostationary orbit to permanent location 4 to 6 months
Testing and commissioning 01 to 02 months
Activation by dth ops & adding channels.....

RE: SES-9 into geostationary orbit in late December

Reverse countdown can only start once d satellite launches...

up until then, there are no guarantees of dates, as generally there are one or two misfires... :s

Very frustrating:angry
ADTV hav to try other oprion till ses-9 nt launched:s :s

SpaceX preparing for Static Fire test on first Full Thrust Falcon 9 First Stage

SpaceX is preparing to conduct the first full duration static fire test on its “full thrust” Falcon 9 first stage. The milestone – set to be conducted at its McGregor test facility in Texas within the next few days – will be a major step forward in the flow towards the company’s Return To Flight mission tasked with launching a group of Orbcomm-2 satellites, set to take place in late November at the earliest.

However, the SES-9 satellite launch is a more complex GTO mission that requires two burns from the second stage, while the OG2 mission is to LEO, requiring just the one push from the second stage. This mission profile will allow for a key reignition test of the second stage post-spacecraft separation, adding confidence to the post-failure modifications to the stage.

SES-9 is currently shown to be rescheduled to December 27, to be followed by Dragon’s return on the CRS-8 mission early in January. All launch date targets, including Orbcomm-2 – currently scheduled for November 24 – are subject to change as the flows align and the launches are conducted.
