I agreed. That could be possibility that Animax will be rebranded to Sony Yay!

Because when you look at SPN India official website: Sony Pictures Networks , All the SPN network channels are listed except Animax.

Four original, Indian, animated shows to start with: 'Local' to be Sony Yay! USP

The channel is promoting 7am to 10am time band. “Each show is of 22 minutes in which two stories will be shown of 11 mins each. We will have shows play out differently in the morning, a variety of stories at 1pm, and it will be different for the 4pm slot, as well. By the end of the year, we will have 52 episodes of 104 stories each. In October, we will have two more show launches.”

A first-of-its-kind musical comedy titled Guru Aur Bhole Mon – Fri at 10am, Sab Jholmaal Hai - A world full of pets that’s nothing short of mischief, mayhem, madness, Mon – Fri at 9am, a classic tale of venturesome friendship Prince Jai Aur Dumdaar Viru Mon – Fri at 11am and a unique laugh-out-loud Ghost Comedy Paap-O-Meter Sat – Sun at 12pm will form the key programming mix of the channel at the time of launch.

Sony Plans to Shut Down Animax ; LIV new destination for Anime

Since its launch in July, 2004, Animax has been catering to that segment of audience which never really got much attention in India. Targeted at the 13 to 35 age group and niche anime lovers, Animax India has been around for more than a decade now. However, catering to a wafer thin segment meant low viewership. Rumours have been running rife that Sony would go in for a refresh in the kids category with a new channel for more than a year now.

And now, with the announcement of new Sony kids channel, Sony YAY!, AnimationXpress has learnt that Sony plans to pull the plug on Animax India which is an offshoot of Animax Asia, a Japanese anime television channel. It is operated and broadcast from Singapore by Animax Asia and distributed by Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) India. It is also the only channel to simulcast anime in the same week and on the same day as Japan.
The media conglomerate plans to bid adieu to it once and for all. However, the content will find a new destination. Animax India has been providing content to a target group which are all thumbs with the digital medium of entertainment. And what could have been better place for Sony than its OTT service Sony LIV to stock up on anime content and let the audience enjoy the show on the go!
SPN India, CEO, N P Singh states, “Animax has been here for a long period of time. Anime is popular with a very small segment of audience, so we will have to take away Animax. Instead we will give them the opportunity to view it on Sony LIV in sometime.”
Singh confirms that the network will soon be making an official announcement about it and anime will definitely be a part of the Sony LIV content cluster. That’s one good news for the anime fans.
Currently, the network airs BanG Dream!, My Hero Academia, Alice & Zouroku, Fairy Tail (season 7), Girlish Number along with reruns of previous shows.
Stay tuned to know more details about this new transition.

Sony Yay! to enter kids genre with 85% local content, Animax content to shift to Sony Liv

Sony Yay! will be available in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across direct-to-home (DTH) and digital cable platforms. “We are launching this channel in three languages—Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Subsequently, we will launch in other languages as well. It will have an India reach on the day of launch,” said SPNI CEO NP Singh.

With the arrival of Sony Yay! as a dedicated destination for kids, Animax will cease to exist on TV. SPNI will discontinue its Japanese anime channel Animax and will put the anime content on its digital VoD platform Sony Liv. Targeted at teens, the channel has a loyal audience base of its own. The network has for some time been contemplating the fate of the channel.

“We will discontinue Animax and all the anime content will be moved to digital on Sony Liv as Animax has its own set of loyal audiences,” said Singh.

Sony Yay! will be initially in standard definition (SD) to give it a wider reach; however, the network will also look at an HD version later. “Subsequently, we will look at an HD channel,” Singh noted.

The channel’s DNA will be comedy and sub-genres within that. Its four local shows are in the comedy genre like comedy musical, comedy action, chase comedy and ghost.
