Eccho Rights, a global rights management company with offices in Stockholm, Istanbul, Madrid and Manila, has entered into an agreement with Star India, taking on an initial representation for three scripts. Eccho Rights works with independent producers to empower creativity worldwide.
Star India, a fully owned subsidiary of 21st Century Fox, has defined the Indian media landscape for over two decades and is one of the country’s leading media conglomerates, reaching approximately 650 million viewers a month across India and over 100 other countries.
The network’s entertainment channel portfolio includes Star Gold, Channel V, Star World, Star Movies, Star Utsav, Life OK, Movies OK and Star Plus, India's No. 1 Hindi General Entertainment Channel. It has a leading presence in regional broadcasting as well.
The first three Eccho titles in co-operation with Star India will be the series Tangled Sisters (Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behena), Vera (Ek Veer Ki Ardaas…Veera), and Unexpected Love (Diya Aur Baati Hum). Eccho Rights will now represent the script rights worldwide exclusively outside of India.
Eccho Rights believes that producers deserve a better distribution service. Its experience of selling finished series, scripted and entertainment formats, plus its hands-on approach and global reach, makes it the ideal partner. Eccho ensures creators retain their rights, protect their brand and maintain quality whilst optimising the value of their products, it is stated on the Eccho company web site.
Eccho Rights' head of Asia Pacific Nixon Yau Lim told World Screen that it was with great excitement that they were starting the co-operation with Star India.
The globalization of drama, Lim said, was developing at an interesting speed and one important focus of Eccho Rights was to expand their partnership with leading producers to manage their script assets in new markets.
Star generates 20,000 hours of content every year and broadcasts 40+ channels in 8 different languages, reaching nine out of 10 C&S TV homes in India. Star's sports business has grown rapidly to 8 channel properties (Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and Star Sports HD1, HD2, HD3 and HD4), making it the leading sports network in the country. Star is set to drive the agenda on digital content consumption in India. Now, hotstar.com brings to its viewers their favourite TV shows, movies and sports in one destination.
