MUMBAI: Hindi general entertainment channel
Star Plus has bagged the award for ‘General
Entertainment Channel of the Year’ at the
recently held Asian Viewers Television Awards
(AVTA) in the UK.
The channel picked up another award for ‘Reality
Programme of the Year’ for its celebrity dance
reality show ‘Nach Baliye’.
English news channel NDTV won the ‘Best News
Channel’ honour at the awards, while its group
editor and senior anchor Barkha Dutt picked up
the ‘Best Asian News Presenter’ award.
Speaking on the occasion, NDTV Group CEO
Vikram Chandra said, “NDTV is not just number
one in India but in the UK as well. We are very
proud to have been awarded the Best News
Channel by the Asian Viewers Television Awards.
The fact that we were nominated and voted as
the winner by our viewers, once again
emphasises their trust in our credibility.”
In the other categories, B4U Music was awarded
the ‘Music Channel of the Year’, while Colors’
fiction property ‘Rangrasiya’ picked up the ‘TV
Soap of the Year’ award. Ironically, the show
failed to garner enough eyeballs in India and was
recently pulled off air to make way for ‘Bigg Boss
8’.
Sanaya Irani won the ‘Female Soap Personality
of the Year’ award for her roles in Colors’
‘Rangrasiya’ and Star Plus’ ‘Iss Pyaar Ka Kya
Naam Doon’, while Vivian Dsena bagged the
award in the male category for Colors’
‘Madhubala’. Mohit Sehgal won the ‘Supporting
Actor of the Year’ award for his role in Zee TV’s
‘Qubool Hai’.
TV actor Karan Tacker hosted the star-studded
awards show and entertained audiences with
several light-hearted and funny moments
throughout the evening.
