MUMBAI: Leading Hindi GEC Star Plus is making some key changes to its programming line-up and adding new shows.
Star Plus has not changed its 6.30–7.30 pm slot, featuring long-running serials such as ‘Suhaani Si Ek Ladki’, ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ and ‘Ye Hai Mohabbatein’.
The channel is also offering a new show at 8 pm, replacing its popular series ‘Siya Ke Ram’. The upcoming love story ‘Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil’, made by Balaji Telefilms, will be aired from Monday to Friday, 7 November onwards. It will feature Arjun Bijlani and Drashti Dhami in the lead role of Raghav and Naina respectively. The series is shot in Austria.
Following the romantic drama, there will be yet another Balaji Telefilm series, titled ‘Chandra Nandini’, at 8.30 pm, Monday to Friday. The recently launched historical drama is based on the life of Chandragupta Maurya. The historical serial replaced the channel’s existing show ‘Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai Pyaar Kya Karein’, which was produced by Suzana Ghai’s Panorama Entertainment.
At 9 pm from Monday to Saturday, Star Plus airs new series ‘Naamkaran’, which is inspired by the 1990 movie ‘Zakhm’. The recently launched show also marks filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt as a television director. The series revolves around a woman’s fight to raise her little ‘illegitimate’ child.
The 9.30–10 pm slot remains the same, with the channel airing its long-running series ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, which is followed by ‘Ishqbaaaz’.
Star Plus will be airing a political thriller ‘POW: Bandi Yuddh Ke’ from 7 November, every Monday to Saturday at 10.30 pm. Produced by Emmay Entertainment and directed by Nikkhil Advani, the series is a localised version of ‘Prisoners of War’. The channel has signed a licensing deal with Keshet International (KI) to have access to this format. The show is sponsored by Dabur Red Paste, Tata Tiago and Patanjali Kesh Kanti.
‘POW: Bandi Yuddh Ke’ revolves around two soldiers who were held captive for 17 years by the Pakistani Army after the 1999 Kargil War. The story highlights the attempt and struggle to adjust to their lives after returning home.
While the GEC has strong line-up of fictional shows, it currently offers just one nonfiction show, ‘MasterChef India’, which airs on the weekends in the 8–9 pm slot.
Earlier this year, the channel had decided to telecast two of its popular soaps, namely ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ and ‘Ye Hai Mohabbatein’, seven days a week, at 7 pm and 8 pm, respectively. The channel has reserved the 8–9 pm slot for five days a week to air nonfiction shows. The primetime fictional shows are scheduled to run six days a week. The channel airs Hindi movies on Sunday at 9 pm.
