AHMEDABAD: A cable operators' association approached the Gujarat high court seeking an extension of the deadline to convert analog television signals to digital by installing set-top boxes.
The Saurashtra-Kutch Local Cable Operators' Association filed the petition which seeks the HC's direction to the authorities, to extend the deadline for putting up set-top boxes, by six months. The present deadline for digitization is March 1, and if viewers fail to install set-top boxes by then, they will not be able to receive a TV signal using cable.
The petitioner's counsel Pratik Jasani said that the contentions in the petition are unavailability of set-top boxes in the market.
They also contend that an upgrade of the complete system from analog to digital is a mammoth task, and it is not possible in such a limited time.
