You don't need Disney+ Hotstar subscription for playing star channels.i was able to watch the channels without any subscription.This was before official launch.

Sun Direct has not activated the Star live channels.Most of us not getting star channels.you can contact customer care and ask for same.when I asked they said star channels are currently not available.
 
Is sun direct go app working or not. I am able to login, but videos are not playing and live tv channels are not working.
