Few days back i buy a Mp3 mobile accessory from Tatasky, with this you can use your iphone or Android phone as a universal remote,these are the steps to use this accessory,

1. Download the Tatasky mobile access application from itunes/ android market.

2. Plug the enclosed Mp3 mobile accessory to the audio jack of your phone.

3. Select the Tatasky mobile access app and. Enjoy the experience

I use this on my iphone & my iphone works well as a remote for my Stb, Lcd & Dvd.

Just for a information...
This is actually a IR module, which is activated by the mobile app software.

If ur mobile already has IR inbuilt, the mobile can be used as a universal remote using remote software.

Earlier i had Nokia 6600 which had IR. I used a software called PSiloc IR Remote and was using my N6600 as universal remote.
