MUMBAI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has awarded Pakistan Super League (PSL) broadcast rights to ZEEL-owned sportscaster Ten Sports and public broadcaster PTV Sports for a period of three years for Pakistan. Ten Sports is also the official broadcaster of international cricket played in Pakistan. The sportscaster operates in the country through its subsidiary. The global TV rights for the same duration have been sold to Tech Front, a UAE-based media rights acquisition company. London-based independent television production company Sunset+Vine will handle the TV production of the tournament. The PCB has raised $93 million from the sale of 10-year franchise rights. PSL will feature teams from Quetta, Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. The five franchise owners are Quetta: Omar Associates; Karachi: ARY Group CEO Salman Iqbal; Lahore: Qatar Oil; Islamabad: Leonine Global Sports; and Peshawar: Haier Group CEO Javed Afridi. Habib Bank has bought the tournament’s title sponsorship for a period of three years. “I am delighted with these positive developments and this is a major achievement in our PSL journey. The best part is that all team owners are ardent cricket fans and their dedication will make this league a success. HBL’s association with Pakistan Super League is another indication of established brands partnering with the league,” said PSL governing council chairman Najam Sethi. The PCB said that the sale of all commercial rights—broadcast, franchise, and sponsorship—is in line with the league’s budgetary estimates. “Having awarded production rights to Sunset+Vine, the next step was to ensure that we get the maximum number of eyeballs, and I would like to welcome our media rights partners,” Sethi added. The coach selection process for all five teams will take place in the next 10 days and the player draft event will take place by the end of December. The first edition of the PSL will take place from 4 to 23 February 2016, with matches taking place in Dubai and Sharjah.
