7 years ago when Nimbus launched its 2 sports channels Neo Sports & Neo Sports+, it was seen as three way contest between Ten, ESPN-Star & Nimbus. ESPN Star was gradually loosing its feet in the market as it lost most of its cricket properties to Ten & Sony. With Nimbus having India cricket rights, it was assumed that it would challenge the other two broadcast giants very strongly. It was rightly so, atleast for few years. They thrived on Indian Cricket and went on to renew the rights a few more times. But late in 2012 when Indian team was struggling abroad, Neo began to stumble too. They surprisingly lost the BCCI rights to Star and were only left with Asia Cup. They bought EURO 2012 & French Open rights to survive the cut throat market and later added New Zealand cricket as a much needed cricket property. But the end of 2013 is seeming to be the end of Neo. They have already lost Asia Cup, New Zealand cricket & BWF rights. It seems that premium broadcast business such as that of sports can only survive when one has money like Rupert Murdoch (STAR) or Bukhatir (TEN).
What do you think where does Neo go in future?
