The leading and well-known DTH operator of the country Tata Sky is going to rebrand itself as ‘Tata Play’. The company has already got approval for that name and is also placing orders for new merchandise, equipments, posters, banners, etc. with their new name.
Internal sources and documents filed by Tata Sons that DreamDTH has seen hints that the massive rebranding will take place in a few weeks. Since last month itself, Tata Sky started taking measurements from their authorized dealers to provide them with new posters and banners reflecting rebranded name.
Tata Sons Pvt Ltd had applied for the trademark ‘Tata Play’ on October 12th 2021 whose status is now updated as ‘accepted and advertised’. Although we have the details of that trademark, its logo is currently not available.
Tata Sky started its operation in 2004 as an 80:20 joint venture between Tata Sons (70% stakes) and 21st Century Fox (30% stakes). The Walt Disney Company purchased 21st Century Fox’s stake in the company in March 2019. Disney has no interest in the DTH business and is looking at selling its stake in Tata Sky. It is expected that by March this year Tata Sky will go for public IPO listing with fresh offers-for-sale from Disney and a new name.
