MIB solicits feedback on proposed amendment to Cable TV Rules

MIB on 1st November 2019 has issued a notice soliciting feedback/comments from the general public/ stakeholders on the proposed amendment in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, which may be given by email to the ministry in the next thirty days.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on 1st November 2019 has issued a notice soliciting feedback/comments from the general public/ stakeholders on the proposed amendment in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, which may be given by email to the ministry in the next thirty days.

Currently, all programmes and advertisements telecasted on private satellite TV channels and transmitted through the Cable TV Network are required to adhere to the Programme Code and Advertising Code prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and Cable Television Network Rules, 1994 framed thereunder.

The ministry had after receiving representations on the issues of display of casting/credit/titles of Hindi serials telecast on TV containing the names of artists, singers, lyricists, musicians, directors, procedures, etc. in the Hindi language/ Regional Languages also issued an advisory dated 14.06.2019.

It was issued to the private satellite TV channels which advised them to consider displaying the casting/credits/titles of Hindi / Regional languages TV serials in the respective languages also. The Ministry has now proposed to amend Rule 6 of the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994.

Proposed Amendments

  • The cable operator to carry programmes in his cable services which –
  1. Project women in a positive, leadership role of sobriety, moral, and character-building qualities
  2. Display the casting/credits/titles of Hindi/Regional Languages TV serials in the respective languages also.
