Direct-to-Home (DTH) operator Tata Play (earlier Tata Sky) continued to be the market leader in the DTH industry at the end of 31st December 2021, as per TRAI’s Yearly Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report for the year 2021 released last week.
In the pay DTH market, Tata Play accounted for a 33.48% market share of total net pay active DTH subscribers as of 31st December 2021. Bharti Telemedia (Airtel Digital TV) retained its second position with a 26.37% market share. Dish TV stood in the third position with a 22.04 % market share while Sun Direct took the last spot with an 18.11% market share.
Tata Play’s market share had stood at 33.34% as of the end of September 2021 followed by Bharti Telemedia (Airtel Digital TV) at second position with 26.11%, Dish TV at third position with 22.65%, and Sun Direct at the last position with 17.91% market share.
Pay DTH attained net pay active subscriber base of around 68.52 million with 4 pay DTH service providers as of 31st December 2021, as compared to 70.99 million subscribers with 4 pay DTH service providers as of 31st December 2020. The pay DTH market saw a yearly decrease rate of 3.48% in the pay active subscriber base as compared to the previous year.
Pay DTH subscriber base had stood at 68.89 million as of 31st September 2021, after seeing a drop of 0.97 million subscribers compared to 3oth June 2021 when the pay DTH subscriber base stood at 69.86 million.
