Bharti Telemedia’s DTH arm Airtel Digital TV has revised its set-top box prices by up to Rs 550 for both new and secondary connections a couple of days after Tata Sky’s price increase.Â
New High Definition (HD) connection with installation, STB, antenna, excluding subscription charge used to cost Rs 1,300 but now it has got a Rs 200 or 15.4% price hike and will be sold for Rs 1,500 in Southern India and at Rs 1,850 with Rs 550 or 42.3% hike in rest of India. The new pricing is live on Airtel’s website.Â
For existing customers willing to buy additional secondary HD boxes there is a Rs 451 increase in the cost. HD multi-TV connection which was previously priced at Rs 899, will now cost 30% more at Rs 1,350. The cost for upgrading to HD and Xstream STB remains unchanged.
In comparison to Dish TV and Tata Sky, Airtel’s new HD connection is still cheaper. Both Dish TV and Tata Sky’s HD STB costs Rs 1,899 with taxes and antenna. Overall Sun Direct, the south-focussed DTH operator is providing cheapest HD connection starting at Rs 1,100.Â
