NASHIK: Consumers who have more than one television sets will get a 50 per cent discount on the monthly rental or package for the additional set-top boxes (STB), said a senior official of a leading digital cable service provider in the city while speaking to TOI on Thursday.
"Each television set will have a 'parent set-top box' and a separate connection cannot be taken from the same box. For the second television set, the customer will compulsorily have to get another set-top box which will be labeled as the 'child set-top box' and will be offered at 50 per cent discount on the monthly rental or the package which the service providers are yet to announce," said the official on conditions of anonymity. The details of the monthly rental and packages are expected by next month.
For customers who have more than one television sets, the additional Set Top Boxes (STB) will be charged 50 percent of the monthly rental or the package that will be announced by the entertainment companies shortly, an official of an entertainment company said today.
The official rubbished the claim that two television sets can use the same set-top box to watch separate set of programmes. "The connection can be drawn from the same set-top box for another TV set but the channels viewed on both the TV sets will be the same at any given instance. Independent channel-surfing is not possible in such a set-upas there is no provision of changing the channels on TV set but only on STB," he said. He added that every set-top box has a unique identity number and the packages delivered cannot be interchanged. "That particular package will only be delivered to the allotted set-top box," he said.
In case of an independent channel surfing provision, the customer will have to take another STB which will cost the same but there will be discount offered on the monthly rentals.
The official said that the service providers are yet to announce the packages for Nashik and 37 other cities.
hence currently the customers will be charged the standard rate for the total package for first (parent) STB and 50 percent for the second STB. However, once the package system is announced the package for child STB will have to be lower than the parent STB and 50 percent will be applicable on that rate of the package.
