Direct-to-home (DTH) operator Airtel Digital TV has seen strong subscriber growth in the fiscal fourth quarter while operating profit grew 4.19% over the preceding quarter.
EBITDA for the quarter ended 31 March 2017 grew to Rs 315.3 crore from 302.6 crore in the prior quarter. On year-on-year basis, the EBITDA grew 15% from Rs 275 crore.
Airtel Digital TV’s EBIT grew 42.54% to Rs 97.5 crore while it grew 35.41% compared to previous fiscal year’s Rs 72 crore.
EBIDTA margin saw a 36.4% improvement compared to 34.6% in the previous quarter and 35.1% in the previous fiscal.
Revenue saw a flat growth of 0.89% to Rs 865.7 crore compared to Rs 873.5 crore in the trailing quarter. Revenue grew 10.42% compared to Rs 784 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Subscriber base reaches 12.8 mn
The DTH operator saw net additions of 228,000 customers during the quarter to take its total subscribers to 12.8 million for the period ended 31 March. Net additions grew 24.5% over the previous quarter. However, it showed a decline of 63.2% over the year-ago period.
ARPU and churn
ARPU fell to Rs 228 during the quarter compared to Rs 232 in the previous quarter. In the year-ago period, ARPU stood at Rs 229.
Monthly churn rate improved to 1.2% compared to 1.3% in Q3. In the previous fiscal year, the churn rate was 0.8%.
Capex
During the current quarter, the company incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 138.6 crore. The resultant operating free cash flow during the quarter was at Rs 176.7 crore compared to a cash burn of Rs 19.3 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
Airtel Digital TV offers 588 channels including 65 HD channels, five international channels and five interactive services.
