I recently got the Airtel Xstreme DTH hybrid box installed. The technician was earlier installing the old box, but I specifically asked them to install version 4 because it is newer. They didn’t have it, so they arranged it from another city.

I was not at home, but I asked my family members to make sure the technician is not allowed to connect to Wi‑Fi or a hotspot during installation. Today, when I arrived home, I was surprised to find the oldest software version installed on the box4. It doesn’t have any Wi‑Fi connection.

The good news is that I can turn on USB debugging and sideload apps. I’ve also seen the newer interface on a friend’s box, and the updated UI looks very good.

Now I’m in a dilemma. I want ADB and sideloading enabled and not locked down, but I also want the newer UI that’s available. I haven’t connected to Wi‑Fi yet because I think it will update itself as soon as I do. So I’m unsure whether to update the box or block all updates via ADB and keep the current firmware.

Do you guys know of any way to get the new UI while retaining the ADB Features ?
