Arasu Cable gets a new MD in Mahesan Kasirajan

MUMBAI: There is a change of guard at Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation. Mahesan Kasirajan, Director of Sugar and managing director of Tamil Nadu Sugar Corporation, has been appointed as the new managing director of state-owned Arasu Cable TV Corporation.

Kasirajan will also serve as Director of Information and Public Relations. He replaces J. Kumaragurubaran, who was serving as managing director of Arasu Cable TV Corporation as well as Director of Information and Public Relations. The state government is yet to give any new posting to Kumaragurubaran, who had taken charge of Arasu Cable TV Corporation in August last year replacing D Vivekanandan.

Arasu has a subscriber base of 6.21 million as of 1 September 2013, with an operator base of 24,619 spread across the state.

The multi-system operator (MSO) provides around 100 channels to cable TV subscribers at Rs. 70 per month.

It has an operator base of 24,619 spread across the state.

The state government-owned MSO has been at loggerheads with the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) over digital addressable system (DAS) licence. The MIB has been dilly dallying over giving DAS licence to Arasu to operate in Chennai. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had in 2012 stated that government or government-owned entities must not be allowed to enter the broadcasting sector.
