Same thing was done by Deepak Chaurasia when he quit Aaj Tak and launched his own channel India News. News anchors when get popular, they quit their job and start their own news channel. Thats the new tradition.

Arnab is popular since he broke CWG Scam and other corruption scandals which led to the IAC/Anna movement. It has been more than 4 years since then. I guess there is something which went off between him and owners of Times Group as he opposed Times Group's Aman ki aashi (Pak friendship program) and said it's useless. Maybe one of the reason.

And Arnab created all of this channel from scratch from himself from day 1. It was like his own channel. He wouldn't have left unless there was a problem.

It's not a tradition.

Wow.. he would have enjoyed it. What a lovely way to show your love n respect. Definitely he needs a big big wall to place all these posters of his own words/remarks/shouts/and what not... hahaha.

TV journalist Rahul Shivshankar has been appointed Chief Editor at English news channel Times Now. This was announced today by Times Network, the broadcast arm of Bennett Coleman & Company, which operates the 24-hour channel. Based out of Mumbai, Shivshankar will directly report to Times Network Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer M K Anand. He will lead the editorial team of Times Now and work closely with the business and leadership teams to ensure that the channel grows significantly and profitably, the media firm said in a statement.

This would be Shivshankar’s second stint with the network after six years – earlier he worked as Senior Editor of Times Now. During his career, he has also served as Editor-In-Chief of NewsX and Executive Editor of Headlines Today (TV Today Network).

“We are confident that the vast knowledge and domain expertise which he brings with him will hold Times Now in good stead and reaffirm the channel’s leadership position in the market,” Anand said.

MUMBAI: Times Network, the broadcast arm of Bennett Coleman & Company Limited (BCCL), has appointed Rahul Shivshankar as the chief editor of its English news channel Times Now. He will replace Arnab Goswami, who had left the company last month.

This would be Shivshankar’s second stint with the network after a gap of close to six years. His biggest challenge will be to maintain Times Now’s supremacy over its competitors CNN News18, NDTV 24×7 and India Today TV.

In his new role, Shivshankar will lead the editorial team of Times Now, working closely with the business and leadership teams to ensure that the channel grows significantly and profitably. Based out of Mumbai, he will directly report to Times Network MD and CEO MK Anand.

“I am pleased to welcome Rahul as the chief editor of Times Now. We are confident that the vast knowledge and domain expertise which he brings with him will hold Times Now in good stead and reaffirm the channel’s leadership position in the market,” Anand said.

Commenting on his new role, Shivshankar said, “This is my second stint with Times Now and it’s more like a homecoming. Leading a channel that has already set a very high benchmark is always a challenge. I look forward to taking on this mantle and hope to help Times Network achieve our objectives.”

In a career spanning almost 20 years, Shivshankar served as editor-in-chief of NewsX, executive editor of Headlines Today (TV Today Network) and as senior editor of Times Now. He also worked for the editorial page of The Times of India.
