MUMBAI: With digitisation picking up, Big CBS is targeting the Hindi Speaking Markets (HSM). The JV between RBNL and US broadcaster CBS will launch a dubbed Hindi channel in this quarter. This will be RBNL’s eighth channel.
Speaking to Indiantelevision.com Big CBS business head Anand Chakravarthy points to the success that Discovery has had. "Earlier they were only present in English. When they went into Hindi the reach went up dramatically. This will also help boost our ad revenue".

However the broadcaster at the moment has no plans on launching a high definition feed anytime soon. "We evaluated this possibility last year. But the fact is that nobody is paying a premium for high definition. Whatever we do has to make business sense."
In terms of challenges that the genre faces he points out to the ratings system which is inadequate for the niche genre. "Either you get a new system or the current system comes out with a product for this genre. You could have the Tam Elite Panel. There are data fluctuations happening which cannot be explained not just for us but for the other players as well." :k
