Just on the heels of Minissha Lamba being detained at the Mumbai airport for carrying undeclared jewellery amounting to Rs.50 lakhs, actress Bipasha Basu was also detained yesterday (May 26) by the customs officials for trying to evade tax duty.
Bipasha, who returned to Mumbai after shooting Players in London, was detained by the Mumbai airport authorities for carrying undeclared goods. Unlike Minissha, who was freed after a jewellery store proved that the assets belonged to them, Bipasha ended up paying the amount due after hours of interrogation.
Customs officials said that the actress was carrying her personal goods worth Rs.65,000 that needed to be declared. Bipasha admitted that she was detained during the routine check up and paid Rs. 12,000 for her goods. She added that the officials did an excellent job.
The customs officials said that the actress was very co-operative during the interrogation and was let off after paying the required duty. No fine or penalty was imposed on her.
