Sony Le PLEX HD to premiere ‘Straight Outta Compton’ on 15 Jan
Sony Le PLEX HD is set to premiere American biographical thriller ‘Straight Outta Compton’ on 15 January at 1 pm. The movie will have a repeat telecast at 9 pm.
Based on the true story of this famous American hip hop group, ‘Straight Outta Compton’ takes you through the world of drugs, brotherhood and West Coast Hip Hop music.
The film was a commercial and critical success making over $200 million against its $50 million budget. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
The film’s soundtrack album, featuring music by N.W.A, debuted at no. 1 on the Rap Albums chart and reached no. 1 on the Top Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr. (who plays the role of his father Ice Cube), Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E and Paul Giamatti as N.W.A’s manager Jerry Heller, the movie boasts of an intriguing narrative and strong performances.
The film, based in an impoverished, oppressed Compton, California during 1986, is the story of Eazy-E, a drug dealer, Dr. Dre, an aspiring disc jockey and Ice Cube, a young rapper. Intrigued by Ice Cube’s “reality raps” reflecting on the frequent systemic oppression that African Americans encountered daily, Dr. Dre convinced Eazy-E to fund a startup record label, Ruthless Records, with the former as record producer.
When their song “Boyz-n-the-Hood” got rejected by a New York rap group, Dr. Dre convinced Eazy-E to perform it instead. It became a local hit and Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella and MC Ren formed the group N.W.A (“Niggaz Wit Attitudes”), which revolutionised music in the ’80s.

MUMBAI: Hindi movie channel Zee Cinema will premiere ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ on 21 January at 8 pm.
Directed by Nitya Mehra, the movie stars Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif. The plot revolves around Jai Verma (Sidharth Malhotra) and Diya Kapoor (Katrina Kaif), who are all set to get married. Just a day before their marriage, Jai chooses to reconsider his decision leaving Diya heartbroken. What follows next is an emotional ride transcending time and age that changes Jai’s perspective on life forever.
The channel has undertaken a series of marketing initiatives to promote the premiere. Kick-starting the campaign, the channel organised ‘The Kaala Chashma Bike Rally’ to celebrate the biggest chartbuster of 2016. The activity witnessed 50 bikers with women pillion riders, dressed in bridal attire rallying around Mumbai and Delhi across key locations grooving to ‘Kaala Chashma’ and other songs of the movie. The rally was flagged off in Mumbai by television actors Kishwer and Suyyash.
Zee Cinema has also introduced a five-day outdoor teaser campaign, followed by a five -day innovation with a life-sized ‘Kaala Chashma’ at prime locations in Mumbai. The installation had the video of ‘Kaala Chashma’ being played within the frames.
During the telecast of the movie on Zee Cinema, few lucky dedicated messages will be featured live on television during the songs. Zee Cinema will also have a specially curated ‘Kaala Chashma’ themed channel bug during the premiere.
