Good news for football fans with 3D TV sets: From
the 2011/12 season, national German football
association Deutsche Fußball-Liga (DFL) will also
offer the Saturday evening game in 3D.
The kick-off will be with the match between Hertha BSC Berlin and 1. FC Nürnberg on 6 August 2011 and subscribers of pay-TV platforms Sky Deutschland and Entertain will be able to watch the 3D live coverage from 18.30 CET. The 3D games will be captured by eight 3D cameras positioned at the edge of the court to give viewers the impression of being as close as possible to the action. Since the second half of the 2010/11 season, DFL has been offering selected Bundesliga games in 3D, mostly on Sundays. Sky and Entertain broadcast the matches live. The production is handled by 100% DFL subsidiary Sportcast which also offers the basic standard- definition signal of each season's 612 games to TV broadcasters.
