The analogue signal for BBC2 was turned off for five million households as the largest phase of switching the country’s sets to digital began on Thursday. They will lose the other terrestrial channels on April 18th.
Households throughout the capital and the south were affected after the signal from 54 stations were cut. Despite a major advertising campaign, thousands of households were forced to phone emergency help lines as they discovered they could not watch their set.
It is thought up to million households including elderly and disabled viewers lost the channel altogether and may need extra help switching to digital.
