It will take a long time, for d mkt to absorb 100 HD chnls.... so far the target of 50 is not being met. :s

Expect atleast 2 more yrs, for 100 HD chnls to be in d mkt :k

100 HD channels won't be an issue in my perspective.
HD videos can be shot even by mobile phones these days.
But TP space issue may hinder launching more HD channels !

see the cost differential between sd and HD has reduced substantially over the years. As it is now all content is shot only in HD cameras as there are no standalone sd cameras left. Only the broadcast is done in sd but since the cost has reduced substantially, more and more channels will be available in HD as the full impact of digitization take place.

31.12.2015 is the last date for digitization across the country which going by the first two phases will take another 12-18 months to actually achieve. So the timeline of having 100 HD channels is not unrealistic. Another issue is the bandwidth and with more foreign satellites being made available not to mention ISRO owned satellites, the space issue will also be taken care of.

So arpu will increase more revenues for dth and mso and broadcasters in the horizon. Not to mention more content in HD for customers who are ready to pay for the same.

I believe in next few yrs, Indian DTH mkt will have to follow the strategy of HOTBIRD.
Having 2-3 satellites at the same orbital slot, as capacity of a single satellite will be unable to hold all HD chnls, in near future :win
