Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.
launched its premium new channel
(Zindagi’) in Mumbai, on June 16. The
new channel which will go air on June 23
will initially beam Pakistan TV’s top rated
shows but will later show global content
from places like from Bangladesh, Sri
Lanka, Latin America, Egypt, Iran and
Turkey.
Imran Abbas, one of the top leading
actors of the Pakistani media industry
present at the launch of Zindagi was
elated that new channel will air soaps
from across the border. Abbas believes
Zindagi will provide a great medium for
Indian to acquaint themselves with the
lives of Pakistanis and shun
misconceptions about them.
Speaking at a press conference, Imran
Abbas who will be seen as a lead in the
show Mera Naseeb stated, “Through this
channel, Indian viewers will get to see
the side of Pakistan that they don’t
normally get to see. The way the media
projects Pakistan, people think only bad
things happen in the country. People
think that girls in Pakistan only wear
salwar kameez and that men wear safa
all the time. That’s not true. I believe TV
is the best medium to understand the
culture of a country. Emotions
throughout the world are the same just
that the language, faces and treatment
differs.”
Zindagi aims at targeting viewers who
are open to variety in the content. In
the first few weeks of launch, the
channel will run 6-7 shows. It will be a
24-hour channel and will be available
only in India on both Analog and Digital
(DTH and digital cable) platforms.
It will start by airing With handpicked
stories by acclaimed Pakistani writers
like Zindagi Gulzar Hai at 8:00 pm, Aunn
Zara at 08:55 pm and Kaash Main Teri
Beti Na Hoti at 09:45 pm every day of
the week. Some shows will be weekly, a
few will be dailies. The other shows in
the pipeline include: Kitni Girhain Baqi
Hain and Mera Naseeb.
The Pakistani heart throb gave assurance
that the Urdu used in Pakistani soaps
will be easily understood. He said, “We
have been watching Indian shows in
Pakistan for years, without them being
dubbed. The culture and language is
quite similar in both the countries —
just that Pakistan has an Islamic
government and that culture will reflect
in the shows. But I think there are more
Muslims in India than in Pakistan, so it
shouldn’t be a hindrance.”
Imran who has been offered films by
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rajkumar Santoshi
and Mohit Suri in the past is all set to
make his Bollywood debut with the
movie Creature 3D opposite Bipasha
Basu. http://www.totalfilmy.com/news/thu_20140619_1149/dashing_pakistani_actor_imran_abbas_launches_new_channel_‘zindagi’40132.html
