DD hikes reserve price of Freedish slot to Rs 4.8 cr

MUMBAI: Buoyed by the interest from private broadcasters targeting rural hinterland, Doordarshan has hiked the reserve price for slots on its free direct-to-home (DTH) platform Freedish to Rs 4.8 crore from Rs 4.3 crore. The last date for submission of complete application is 14 February 12 pm.

The pubcaster will hold the 32nd e-auction for vacant slot on Freedish on 14 February.

DD had registered its biggest revenue haul by auctioning Freedish slots in the 31st e-auction.

Among the three channels that had won the slot and 24 channels that renewed their respective slots, the pubcaster had earned Rs 129.3 crore (Rs 1.29 billion) from its 31st e-auction.

The highest bid was Rs 5.1 crore and the lowest was 4.3 crore (Rs 43 million), which is the base price per slot. Freedish had earned an average amount of Rs 4.8 crore (Rs 48 million).

9X Bajao, News State Uttarakhand/Uttar Pradesh, and Teleshop had won slots while Big Magic, Big Magic Ganga, Dangal, B4U Movies, Cinema TV, Dabangg, Enterr10, Maha Movie, Manoranjan TV, Aaj Tak, ABP News, India News, India TV, News Nation, News-24, Sadhna National, Chardikala Time TV, Mastii, Sony Mix, 9X, Aastha Bhajan TV Channel, Aastha TV Channel and Sanskar TV had renewed slots.

Interested channels will have to submit uplinking and downlinking permission from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) with the application.

They are also required to give a participation amount of Rs 1.5 crore (Rs 15 million) as demand draft in favour of DD besides a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 10,000.
