STAR needs to start shutting down all these filler channels where they also pay licenses for other stuff not owned by them and they'd sublicense their sports rights too.

They themself destroyed Star World to make HotStar popular. Some years back, they stopped showing anything worthy at Star World, while HotStar had evey good TV series that they can play on Star World too.
At the end, they got to know that no one gives a F about all ABC/Fox library of TV series online.

They thought Indian audience cared about Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and that is enough to retain their existing subscribers.

Whatever Sports is do or die business, Nobody can't breakeven Star get Revenue but not profit and Sony have Profit but not Acquired Sports properties Revenue/Breakeven. Reliance just have deep pocket from many sources they doesn't care losses/Revenue or profit.

If both they planned negotiations going right way, probably we may get answer on Jio cinema New name and Sports18 New Channels in this thread itself.

I already said in Zee/Sony merger thread all big Broadcasters shrinking in different things Revenue, Profit or losses. Only small Broadcasters who invested less on contents they have some hope left.

Disney overpaid in their Fox acquisition. It was a known fact. Everyone raised this question but the macro economics were in good shape and Disney's other properties like Theme Parks, Movie Studio and Linear TV fired on all cylinders.

Star India's cash flow was supposed to reach $1 billion in 2019 but they will have negative cash flow in FY24.

Such a shame. Disney ruined Star India with their poor leadership.

Like Star have Revenue, Sony have little profit and Reliance/Viacom18 have nothing still they want establish player in India, they will do anything for that. even if Viacom18 or their investors Acquire/Joint venture with Big 3 Disney and Sony/Zee step by step in India, overall it's doesn't make any sense when it's comes to competition world, just because these mass Media have known properties/Share in market.

Sports is a profitable business. Being live content it has a unique appeal. People would rather pay for convience over streaming or watching pirated feed. This is why DTH and TV still sells like hotcakes.

Star had monopoly when it came to sports. They had not one but all 3 big cricketing rights.
