A shortage of Ku-band transponder (used for communication, and particularly for broadcast services) capacity is looming large on the horizon for direct-to-home service providers. With an increasing number of TV channels and many standard definition channels getting converted into high definition ones, DTH players have to juggle with regional and national channelsto retain their subscriber base.
As of now, there are over 800 satellite channels in India. Recently, the Government had mandated cable operators to raise their head-end capacity to accommodate 500 channels. But, DTH operators have a capacity to take on hardly 350channels. This prevents all the DTH players from carryingmany regional channels, whichis important to retain their subscriber base, particularly in rural markets. as per growing race for channels and as channels are adding day by day.

if any dth wishes to accomodate 500 channels then it is better for them to recieve signals from atleast 3 satellities as i feel 2 satellite will also not be enough to accomodate 500 channels or more.

monblock i feel will solve the problem as i feel monoblock can be made in such a way to receive signals from 3 satellites by one dth co.

what do experts feel????:):)
