Aircel–Maxis ghost: ED attaches Marans’ assets worth Rs 742 cr

MUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED)
today attached assets of Sun TV Network
owner Kalanithi Maran and his brother and
former Telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran in
relation to the money-laundering case in the
Aircel–Maxis deal.

The ED seized assets worth Rs 742.58 crore
(Rs 7.43 billion). The attachment order was
issued under the provisions of the
Prevention of Money Laundering Act
(PMLA).

The offence relates to the illegal
gratification amounting to Rs 742.58 crore
received by Dayanidhi.

The money was allegedly paid by companies
based in Mauritius for Dayanidhi, in two
companies namely Sun Direct TV Pvt Ltd
(SDTPL) and South Asian FM Ltd
(SAFL).They are owned by Kalanithi, brother
of Dayanidhi.

In SDTPL, Kalanithi and his wife Kaveri own
80 per cent stake, while in SAFLSun TV
Network Ltd has 60 per cent and the
balance 40 per cent is equally held by AH
Multisoft and South Asia Multimedia
Technologies, Mauritius.
