ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has retained the South Asia telecast rights for the English Premier League (officially known as Barclays Premier League) for three more years. ESS won the rights following a second round of bidding, which was also hotly contested by Multi Screen Media (MSM).

Sources close to the development have confirmed the news to exchange4media. It is learnt that ESS won the telecast rights for $145 million.

Sponsored by Barclays Bank, the English Premier League is an English professional league for association football clubs. The Premier League is operated as a corporation and is owned by 20 member football clubs. A total of 380 matches are played over nine months of the year. These matches are telecast in 212 territories across the world, covering around 720 million households.
