Tata sky didn't mention HEVC in their stb.
IMO, They have released new stb to provide support for recording or pause play live tv using pendrive and HEVC support which they might use in future.

If they could enable a better compression technology via update, why did they replace MPEG2 STB with MPEG4?

Also why is Airtel and Sun direct giving HEVC STB if they could enable it in existing STB via update?

HEVC is also known as MPEG 10.

Tata Sky care ka taal mel thik nahi hai iss mamle me.

(I asked many times about HD HEVC STB, but every time got same reply that got to @sumitroy bro)

Yes the Humax box clearly mentions HEVC on it.I think currently Tatasky have not migrated any of the channels to HEVC encoding.If anyone could answer , do a software update is sufficient on the existing MPEG4 boxes to decode the HEVC signals.
