I don't have home theater bro...
But I believe it's not possible to configure TS universal remote with HT.

I am using old Tata Sky Universal Remote for TV, STB & Onkyo HT.

It's just infrared to infrared. Should work with both TV and Home Theater. I used to control the volume of my home theater with Airtel remote and TV power and source as well with the same remote. So one just need to pair them properly to use it the way they want!

2) However, Tata Sky and Airtel cost us money even for allowing us to record anything, don't they? I guess we might want to take the good with this obvious disadvantage.

TS doesnt have USB recording as of now. If one needs recording facility they have to buy the +HD PVR. Recording is free in TS.
ADTV has USB recording feature, where they charge some amount per month, they also have PVR HD STB.
