whenever I switch channels there is a pause for a sec and then the transmissions resumes... i never faced this issue on Airtel dth
is this normal or do I need to make any settings changes ?

It is normal on TataSky. It happens with every Tata Sky box. You will get used to it with time as @thisisjagan said.

By the way, it is not related to signal. It is their box which makes this issue. They don't take it as a problem so it exist from long time.

yes checked my cousins TS channels... it is the same, I will have to get used to it...

Welcome to DDF bro! Looks like you're facing the same problem as mine.
Make sure you set resolution to 50 Hz, think that will do.

everytime when the TS STB is rebooted the volume goes to zero level.. is this normal TS ?

because I have paired my TV volume to setup bot remote and once STB is restarted there is no way I can increase STB Volume

go to audio settings in STB settings and increase the volume of STB if its low
