Can anybody find out which operator is carrying more than 20 sd and 13 hd channel on single tp.

videocon d2h carries 48 sd chs in one mpeg4 dvb se 54 mhz tp bcoz each 54 mhz tp can carry 50 percent more chs than what a 36 mhz tp can do, also as videocon d2h uses mpeg4 tech for sd chs(plus hd chs) so it can add double the chs that what tata sky can do in a mpeg2 sd ch tp. so in total videocon d2h can carry 2 and a half times sd chs(as it is using mpeg 4 tech for sd channels and has 54 mhz transponders) on a single transponder than what tata sky can do and 50 percent more hd chs on a single hd tp (as its a54 mhz mpeg4 tp) than what tata sky can do(as its only a 36 mhz mpeg4 tp only for hd chs)

tata sky can carry 16 sd to max in good quality in a mpeg2 36 mhz sd transponder but they r overcompressing and relaying 20 sd channels on many tps, similarly they can carry max 8 hd chs on a 36 mhz hd tp using mpeg4 but they are carrying 12 hd chs by overcompressing

@dino29:
Only videocon d2h is having more channels in one TP comparing TataSky? What about Airtel, Dish TV and Sun Direct?

I think Airtel can also have more channels since they are also providing channels in MPEG4 technology.

Same is the case for Sun Direct (I am not sure).

Will be good if you are telling about other DTH as well since you have Airtel as well with you :)

yes airtel, reliance and sun direct are using mpeg4 technology but still they have 36 mhz tps so they can deliver 50 percent less channels than what videocon d2h can do

dish tv again uses the same as tata sky uses, mpeg2 for sd chs and mpeg4 for hd chs

Agree airtel and sun cannot provide more or equal to d2h.. Are they providing more than TataSky?? That is the question here..

Why not change MPEG2 to MPEG4
So the question arises "Why don't the DTH companies using MPEG-2 change over toMPEG-4?" The problem is that MPEG-4 is not compatiblewith the older MPEG-2 Set Top Boxes or STBs. To change to MPEG4 from MPEG2,all the MPEG-2 Satellite Decoder/Receiver Set Top Boxes (STBs) with its millionsof subscribers have to be scrapped. MPEG-4 will only work with new MPEG-4 Satellite Decoder/Receiver Set Top Boxes (STBs).
DVB-S2 DVB is the abbreviation for 'Digital Video Broadcasting' andS2 means 'Satellite - Second Generation'. DVB-S2 is a digitaltelevision broadcast standard and is an enhancement of the original DVB-S system. DVB-S2enables broadcasters to provide interactive services like Internet access. DVB-S2 ismuch better than the original DVB-S and allows Satellite DTH(direct-to-Home) providers to increase bitrate using the same satellite transponder bandwidth. The improvement issaid to be over +30% of the first generation DVB-S. If the benefits of improved compression using the latest MPEG-4 are added to the DBV-S2, then DTH providers can transmit HDTV and 3D TV using the same bandwidth as DTH providers with MPEG-2 use to transmit 4:3 ordinary SDTV (standard definition TV). Some of the DTH (direct-to-home) broadcasters using DVB-S2 in the English speaking world are

It is proved that MPEG 2 have better quality than MPEG 4.

That is the reason for good quality.

The only disadvantage is it consumes more space.

u r wrong , good quality has nothing to do with mpeg2 or mpeg4. if a channel is running at 3 msps in mpeg2 then same quality can bea chieved in mpeg4 in just 1.5 msps. so mpeg4 would give better picture quality in less space
