IBN7 to be rebranded News18 India on 9 Nov

The Hindi news channel of TV18, IBN7, will be rebranded as News18 India this month on November 9. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has given its approval in the month of September for the channel’s renaming.

The development will bring along a new programming for its audience. With Awasthi joining the IBN7 team in the year 2014 as the deputy managing editor, a new editorial team will now be set up with the arrival of Kishor Ajwani (from ABP News) and Amish Devgan (from Zee Business).

The TV18 group actually owns and operates 18 news channels in English, Hindi, Urdu and other local languages. The company has newly introduced three local channels for the Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam/North East under the News18 brand. Three other licences are under the News18 brand which are namely News18 Goa, News18 Punjab and News18 Jammu & Kashmir.

The company will also rebrand its Marathi news channel IBN Lokmat and regional news channels under the ETV brand in
the future.

“We want to make News18 the single umbrella brand for our
news network over a period of time,” Kaul said.
While most of TV18’s news channels are successful, IBN7 has lagged behind so far. Kaul’s focus is to build the channel into a formidable Hindi news brand in its new avatar.

Targeted at 15+ male audiences, News18 India’s focus will be hardcore national news since the network has regional news channels to cater to hyper-local issues. The key markets for the channel are Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab.

The company has been increasing distribution footprint of the channel in the last one year, particularly after the rollout of BARC’s rural data.
