Paytm is one of the popular services
for online recharge. The service is
now available on the mobile platform
as well. We take a detailed look at the
Android version of Paytm. Gone are the days when you used to
look for the nearest recharge shop to
recharge your mobile phone, DTH or
datacard. Until recently, we were
making payments online (web). Well,
with improved mobile Internet
speeds, making online payments on-
the-go has become much easier and
emerged as a preferred option for
many.
Well, there are several Indian apps/
websites that allow you to make
online bill payments for mobile
phones, DTH or datacard. Paytm is
one of the oldest and popular ones.
The service offers mobile recharge
and online bill payments as well as
serves as a comprehensive e-
commerce store with categories
ranging from fashion, books to
sports, fitness and outdoors.
Paytm is available on web as well as
mobile platforms. We take a detailed
look at the Paytm for Android app.
The app is compatible with Android
2.3 and up, covering all the latest
Android smartphones. In addition to
delivering basic recharge facility, the
app comes with several interesting
features such as Fast Forwarding
recharge, order queue up and lots
more. We will take a detailed look at
the features later in the review. Read
on.
Interface
Paytm has a simple user interface
while the features are very organised.
Launching the app brings you to the
home screen, which shows you the
options to pay for mobile, DTH and
data card. Paytm gives you the option
to switch from prepaid to postpaid as
well.
The top bar features categories (on
the left hand side), which includes
options such as recharge or pay for –
(mobile, DTH, datacard, landline,
electricity and gas) and a range of
shopping options. There's a search
option as well (denoted by a
traditional lens symbol). On the right
hand side, the cart button directs you
to your profile, Paytm Cash Wallet,
order history, help center and option
to log out.
Coming back to the home, below the
recharge/pay for section, you have the
shopping segment. Similar to any
mainstream e-commerce site, Paytm
offers exclusive discount deals for
categories ranging from home décor
to sports. At the bottom, you also
have the option to customise your
search.
Ease of use
For any utility app, simplicity is the
key. Paytm's Android app is simple
and very easy to use. There's a very
simple sign up process, which
requires you entering mobile number,
email id and a Paytm password.
However, you can always edit your
personal details later on. There's also
option to update delivery address. On
launching the app, you are straight to
the business – recharge or pay bill.
Paytm also gives you the option to
browse plans of all operators. Any
one who is familiar with online
shopping/payments can use the app
without any problem. While you can
recharge/pay bills, there are several
deals for you to check out – very
similar to popular shopping apps. http://www.digit.in/apps/in-focus-paytm-for-android-23153.html
