Hello everyone,
We all must have noticed there is an increased number of spammers on our forums in recent times. We are not alone, many forums/platforms have seen an increase in spam posts because of the recent incidents of multiple security leaks. People were using the same login credentials at multiple places and hence if your details gets leaked at one place then the hacker can gain access to your accounts at various other places where you use the same login credentials. These hackers generally target the dormant accounts.
In order to curb these spammers we have decided to enable a security lock for all such dormant accounts, which serves as the primary target of these spammers. This feature basically locks the accounts of users who haven't logged in to the forums for an year or more. So, if that user tries to login to his account, after an year, it will force the user to reset his password before logging in. It means that the hacker should have access to your email in order to reset the password and login to the forums and post those spam messages. If people are using the same password for the email as well, then God bless them. But, we positively hope this will reduce the amount of spam that we receive.
We also like to confirm that none of our forums or the news portals had any security breaches. Your data is safe with us. It is because of the security leaks happened in other places and people using that same password on our forums, these hackers could login to those old accounts and abuse them.
Let us also take this as an awareness to use unique and complex passwords for different websites rather than having a single password at all places for easy remembrance. The safety of our data is more important than the comfort.
