The Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India is planning to conduct a series of road shows in United States of America starting end of this month. MoT will organize road shows in Los Angeles (May 31), New York (June 2) and Port of Spain (June 5). The main focus of the road shows is to promote Wellness Tourism and other traditional tourism products and destinations of India. According to MoT sources the road shows are aimed at attracting greater number of American tourists.

The road shows are a collaborative effort between MoT and Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO). Ministry sources informed that Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of Tourism; Government of India will lead a delegation of Ministry officials and select members of IATO for the road shows in America. However, according to sources in MoT, the approval for the proposed dates of the road shows is still awaited from the Tourism Minister’s office. IATO has identified USA as an important inbound market for India. Vijay Thakur, President, IATO said that such road shows are mainly B2B events and offer excellent opportunity for Indian travel trade to interact with their counter parts and help increase business and tourist traffic to India.

MoT under the leadership of Anand Kumar, Joint Secretary – Tourism, Government of India is currently conducting road shows in Cambodia, Vietnam and Bangkok. These road shows, which kicked off on May, 9, 2011 will conclude on May, 15, 2011. Around 15 members of IATO and a few officials from Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) are participating in the road shows along with Ministry officials. The main focus of these road shows is to promote the Buddhist circuits and destinations in India.
