Wow. Did Colours sell History TV18 and FYI to Disney?

Both these chs r JV b/w Network18 and A+E, latter entity has Disney as the joint owner hence it will be brought under Star India fold soon. Network18 cannot do anything if Disney decides so once their agreement period expires

@dino29 bro. When is Disney leaving the Star branding? Even for Fox the brand seemed temporary. A global brand never required a brand like Satellite Television Asian Region.

Star branding will not be retired, it is such a popular network in India and on every person's mind... Disney will let it remain but relatively smaller ones like Nat Geo can still be somehow brought in closer to Disney identity. Fox as a brand has anyways failed to build a major impression on Indian viewer even during earlier days and now it cannot stay bcoz same belongs to rival company.

While Sony is selling out tv biz in other asian countries, it is expanding here... Reason is that OTT is having major -ve impact on network tv in pay subscription driven countries while in India scenario is different bcoz low tv subcription rates /other key factors OTT is not a big erosion factor for broadcasters hence there is opportunity to still grow... Infact here broadcasters r hopping on OTT to add to their income which is complenting growth

Hello @dino29
8 years back UTV Action Telugu Channel Shutdown their is any chance to ReLaunch of this Channel in Telugu and Tamil ? Possible ? Can star do this ?

Yes, minimalistic is way forward for Disney. It would not be dropped but be more attached with Disney in public eye, being majority stakeholders they sure would leverage potential of all its channels when presented under single umbrella. Plz remember soon History TV and FYI will join Disney Bouquet and even there we will see attempt to make people aware about its connection with Disney, all this is important in India bcoz advertisers see reach of complete bouquet of a company and many times even less popular chs get ads by giving price discounts while clubbing with popular ones during ad slots purchase and on. Consumer side people tend to tune in to such chs more if owned by popular brand
Nat Geo brand is older than Disney. In India Star might get History and FYI but Disney will never associate A&E brands to Nat Geo which they don't control globally. In EU they had to sell their stake to Hearst which A&E brands in EU. Even in US they are not distributing A&E content under Disney Media Distribution which is distributing everything Disney holds after the merger.

No sane company would drop STAR brand. It has presence all over Asia. Star India has started to uplinking the channels to African nations also. If Disney were ever drop the name STAR, what brand they will rebrand with ABC? or FX? We all know what's FX position when it was in India. STAR if was a temporary brand, FOX would have sold brand itself to CMC while exiting from China wouldn't have licensed it instead. How ever big the global brand is they have an established brand like STAR to maintain its position. Average person thinks Disney as a Cartoon Company, probably 75+% people might not even know that Star is owned by Disney.

Disney needs to expand on its own India for better future. Why always rely on third party brand to succeed in India? First UTV now Star. Indians doesn't care about what's channel name or how's channels presentation is. As long as they get content that caters to them.

As long as the Brand is owned by them its not a third party brand. Its about how they will manage the brand from the time they got it. No company at this time will able to build a Network/Brand from scratch. If people doesn't know about the brand how will they get to know the content in it. Maa TV even after acquisition by STAR maintened it's own brand identity till 2017, they took much care about that even now they haven't changed the brand from MAA TV to Star Telugu or Sitara which they own earlier through Asianet. They simply added STAR in the logo and called it Star Maa.
In case of Asianet they did not even did that.
Please note that Star Maa is the biggest Star GEC in India

So has Disney decided to take over or is this conjunction at this point?

The yellow box = Nat Geo. They continue to call the channel as Nat Geo Wild.
Many channels use this way of branding.
I know that. But removing the name of such a reputed brand has its own consequences down the line.
