MUMBAI: US media conglomerate NBC Universal has announced that Ryan Sharkey has been promoted to USA Network, Sleuth and Universal HD senior VP, programme acquisitions and administration.

The announcement was made by executive vice president, programming, acquisitions and scheduling Jane Blaney to whom he reports.

Blaney said, "Ryan's professionalism and keen ability to identify new properties that further strengthen the network's brand have made him an invaluable member of our team. He's greatly contributed to our success and this promotion is well-deserved."

Formerly VP, programme acquisitions and administration, Sharkey will continue to oversee programme acquisitions including series and theatrical films. He also manages the programme inventory for all three networks and acts as head coordinator/buyer for select NBCU Cable properties as well as the occasional broadcast network film on a deal-by-deal basis.

Since 2006, Sharkey has been instrumental in USA's aggressive buying of theatrical network windows of blockbuster films like ‘Fast and Furious’, ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’, ‘National Treasure: Book of Secrets’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End’ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’.

Most recently, Sharkey participated in negotiations for deals for the off-network series ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’, ‘CSI’ and ‘Modern Family’. He also played an instrumental role in acquiring product for the re-launch of Sleuth and Universal HD.
